24 January 1996, 8.00pm
Held at Cheadle Heath Social Club
Present: President, Chairman, Secretary/Match secretary, Veterans’ sec., Veterans’ Results sec., Treasurer and delegates from 47 clubs
Apologies: Romiley Arms
Absences: Cross Keys, Ladybridge Park
Correspondence: A letter had been received from Mrs Newlan, following Bob’s death. A letter of condolence had been received from Mr Wildman of the Stockport & District League. Letters were received from Post Office and Cheadle Rec, resigning from the league.
Secretary’s report. The secretary welcomed PCS, Longsight Cricket Club and Poynton WMC as new clubs in the evening league. He thanked clubs for returning their information sheets, and appealed to the slow coaches (four of them) to return theirs.
The composition of the divisions was presented. Mermaid withdrew at the start of the 1995 season, and Post Office and Cheadle Rec had resigned. There was some shuffling up to accommodate the new teams. The fixtures were not yet available, but with Alan Bligh’s much appreciated help, they would be issued presently. A diary was issued, giving the key dates for the coming year.
A green rota was also issued. Clubs who had problems with this should contact the secretary.
Veterans’ Secretary’s Report. Thirty-three clubs had entered fifty-three teams. The newcomer was Cheadle park, to whom welcome. The teams would be organised in two divisions of ten and three of twelve. This would require an earlier start and later finish compared to last year.
Treasurer’s report. The presentation had recorded a surplus of £51.95. The entries for the Veterans’ Merit were again disappointing. The handbooks had been printed for a very reasonable price, and the tickets for the Presentation night had been printed free, thanks to Mike Broome at Deanprint.
Overall, the accounts show a deficit of £112, mainly due to the new fourth prizes in each division.
A few clubs were late in paying for their tickets for the Presentation night. The treasurer wondered if fines should be imposed.
The treasurer thanked the following:
He proposed that the subscription for 1996 be £35 (unchanged) for the evening league and £25 (up from £23) for the veterans’ league. This was seconded by Heaton Mersey Vets and carried unanimously.
The Auditor (Mr E. Price) was not present.
Confirmation of Rule Changes. The changes to rules, proposed at the meeting on 28 November 1995, were confirmed.
Election of Officers. The following were elected.
President Mr S. Warburton
Chairman Mr D. McKnight
Secretary/Match secretary Mr R. Kavanagh
Treasurer Mr J. Forrest
Veterans’ Secretary Mr L. Shinner
Veterans’ Results Secretary Mr G. Hall
Management sub-committee: Messrs C. Houghton, R.A. Wright, H. Armstrong, L. Myatt, R. Edy, J, Ruddock, J. Lloyd, J. Hammond, J. Barratt
The chairman remarked with some amazement that he had now been chairman for 14 years.
Honorariums. The following honorariums were fixed.
Treasurer £130
Secretaries: Messrs P Reynolds, R Kavanagh, F Russell, L Shinner and G Hall: £80 each.
Any Other Business. National Oilwells offered to donate a shield, to be competed for in memory of Bob Newlan. Some suggestions were made for the form of such a competition. They included: the Veterans’ Merit, the Dineley Shield, the most improved club. It was agreed that the Management Sub-committee should meet to discuss details. It was also agreed that the league should make a donation to Bob Newlan’s charity.
The meeting closed at 9.15pm.
