Welcome to the Knutsford Friday Bowling League which was formed in 1978.  The unchanged aim of the league is to encourage new bowlers in conjunction with a social evening.

The mixed league is affiliated to The Cheshire County Bowling Association and plays under British Crown Green rules with 8 players in each team and games are played on Friday evenings.

All greens of the member clubs are within a 9 mile radius of the centre of Knutsford.

The league consists of two divisions consisting of 12 teams in each division, at the discretion of the Committee.

Annually we hold Individual, Pairs, Mixed Pairs and the Jack Brynning (triples) handicapped competitions.

The site is updated by the League Secretary but credits for the site go to Ross Kavanagh the webmaster

Competitions 2025

Individual:

Held at the Railway on Sunday 8th June 2025

"The best competition ever" - "Don't want it to end" -  "Never laughed so much"

 What a great day!!!!!

Thanks to everyone at the Railway for feeding and watering us, to Dennis for a great green and importantly to everyone who participated in the competion.  The event was absolutely in keeping with the ethos of the KFBL, much encouragement, humour and friendliness was shown all day, non  more so than in the final - but more of that below.  We watched some very close matches with lots of excellent bowling, endured a few torrential showers which certainly didn't dampen our spirits, just our clothes and most folks stayed to the bitter end to support their mates.

The results can be seen on the home page under the Individaul Competition tab, but special mention must be made of our 4 splendid semi-finalists - very well done to Sean, Kate, Sandra and Tony.  Sean and Sandra emerged as worthy finalists and entertained us all with great bowling, slapstick and pure enjoyment of the game and made the final into one which will take some beating as a spectacle.  The laughter, cheers, well intentioned boos and applause from the crowd was something to behold and will be talked about for many years to come.

NB Sean and Sandra are now best mates (sorry Brian) and talking of forming a partnership in the forthcoming comps so we all need to watch out.

Pairs:

Held at Chelford on Sunday 6th July 2025

Yet another great day.

Huge thanks to Chelford Bowling Club for hosting the day and looking after us all so well, the refreshments were outstanding, and the organisation  brilliant.  To ensure that these events run smoothly, so much preparation is done behind the scenes, so thanks to you all.

Despite the frequent and heavy showers, there were many smily faces and much laughter.  The bowling was very enjoyable with some very close ends and many near misses causing sharp intakes of breath. The banter from around the green supported the "friendly" Friday bowling atmosphere again and we all look forward to the Mixed Pairs at the Church Inn.

Today both finalists bowled really well throughout and treated us to a well fought match. The full results are posted on the Home Page and show that Tom and Sean beat Mark and Tracey 21 - 12.

We offered the opportunity for the unlucky first round losers to join in a "spur of the moment" knockout competition which was well received, with many suggestions that this become a regular feature of our competiton days.  Richard and Matthew Owen defeated Brian Nield and Lorenzo Ordonez in the first semifinal and went on to overcome Chris Russell and Glenise Barnett in the final.  Pauline Lee and Neil Edmonds were the other losing semifinalists - thanks to everyone who joined in.

Mixed Pairs:

Held at the Church Inn on Sunday 3rd August 2025

Very inclement weather began our day at The Church Inn Bowling green and showers continued on and off until late in the afternoon when we were all reaching for our suncream.

We were teated to some excellent bowling, some very close matches, excellent refreshments from very friendly and helpful staff and efficient organisation of the competition and the raffle by members of the "Church".  Big thanks to everyone who helped and participated.

AS per the Pairs comp, we ran a small consolation competition for some of the 1st round losers whch was won by Brian abd Sandra Jones.  This final against Jill and Dan Caveney, caused much amusement for the crowd as Sandra encouraged Brian on in her unique fashion.  Brian of course took little or no notice.

The main final of the day was an excellent match with Alisha and Bruce overcoming Tracey and Mark.

Jack Bryning:

Held at Knutsford Bowling Club (KBC) on Sunday 21st September 2025

The great competition days didn't stop this time the sun shone brightly all day long which pleased the 17 triple teams and spectators.

KBC hosted the venue after High Legh unfortunatly were unable to accomodate us due to Redthread on their green which had to be treated.   The refreshments were splendid, some of which kindly donated by members from other clubs.  KBC and the League thank everyone for who helped and maontained the spirit of the game.

After a very long day of splendid bowling, played with the usual good humour, we could have had an all Mere final, but Mersey Valley (Tom Humphries, Steve Worrall and Gary Minton beat beat Mere B (Ann Gibbs Jones, Helen Jennings and Tracey Smith) in the first semi-final.  Mere A2 (Richard and Alex Owen and Alec Wright) overcame Church Inn A2 (Jill Caveney, John Kearey and Neil Edmunds) to set up a most thrilling final.  After 20 ends Mere A2 had 19 chalks and Mersey Valley had 9, but then we were treated to an amazing comeback with Mersey Valley winning to 19.  Well done to everyone.
