Minutes of Meeting held on Thursday 19 June 2014 At Mere BC
The Chairman opened the meeting by thanking everybody for attending on the night when England was playing in the World Cup.
- Apologies for absence had been received from Ken Barker, Alan Perks, Peter Hindle (Swettenham), Derek Hurdle (Goostrey) and Celia Brown (Railway). Derek Nichols attended late having been stuck at the airport.
- Minutes of previous meeting on 22 May were discussed and accepted. Proposed by High Legh seconded by Mere.
- Matters arising There were no matters arising.
- Officers’ Reports There were no officer’s reports other than those items to be discussed under specific Agenda Headings (For which Alan Perks had briefed Chris G).
- Handicaps. Handicaps of 4 new players who had played 5 games were given. (2 Goostrey, 1 Railway and 1 Swettenham player). These had been calculated using the standard formula and there were no objections. However, as the player's clubs were not in attendance any representations should be made direct to Alan P. The handicaps are:- AL Neal -4, K.Wood +1(both Goostrey),Judy Tomlins +4 (Railway), J Barnett +4 (Swettenham).
- Team Knockout. The final and semi-finals of the K/O will commence at noon on Sunday 13 July. Warford Park will host and provide refreshments - cakes, sandwiches etc. All clubs are asked to have some players in attendance to support the four semi/finalists.
- Pairs Entries. Only 10 pairs had entered. This was a problem exacerbated by the non-attendance of representatives from the host club Chelford, but there may be a sound reason for this (see 'special note' below). The meeting decided that efforts to secure further entries should be made by the Secretary and the Officers were authorised to make a draw if a sufficient number entered or to cancel the event if there was an insufficient number. A further 3 pairs were notified when Derek Nichols arrived after the meeting had closed.
- Presentation Evening. No further ideas for changes in the structure of the evening, or indeed the need for change, were forthcoming. The Chairman thought this should be reviewed when the numbers attending the 2014 were available. She thought that would better indicate whether the lower numbers last year was a 'location' problem or one of a boredom with content.
- Any other Business. Maryke Todd, Cranford B Captain, sought clarification on the rules about players arriving late after a draw had been made. Her question arose because at a recent match she had specifically asked that a 'novice' player went on the first four. However, the novice's opponent did not arrive until 30 minutes later. By that time she was on the green and wasn't aware that the novice's game had not commenced. There were no rules governing this situation and none was thought to be necessary. The situation described was unfortunate insofar as the person who arrived late was nearly always early and could not be contacted. There was some failure of communication because games were in progress. The opposing captain had apologised on the night and did so again at the meeting. It was felt by all that Captains were responsible for ensuring that games took place in the correct order and where needed to accommodate a player who must play in the first round, players should be changed after the draw. If necessary a captain/captain's games should be interrupted to resolve such conflicts.
- Special Note. The meeting was saddened to hear of the death of Jim Gray, a stalwart of Chelford and Cranford Bowling Clubs. He was a regular attendant at all the KFBL's events. He will be sorely missed and our commiserations are sent to his wife Allison.
Chris Grice
Acting Secretary.
