Knutsford Friday Bowling League

Meeting 16 June 2016 at Mere Parish Club

Apologies for Absence: Julie Bason & Kath Perks (Cranford); Les Jennings (Warford Park); Fred Taylor (Oughtrington); Ian Palfreyman (Chelford) and Alan Perks (Secretary).

Minutes of Previous Meeting: As the minutes of the previous meeting (19 May) had not yet been published on the web site, Chris G, acting secretary, read the minutes and noted that they had been approved by the Chairman. The minutes were proposed and seconded and accepted as a true record.

Matters arising:

• A difficulty in the organisation of the Individual Competition was raised. Apparently a player had succeeded in winning two preliminary round games on the Friday Evening but was then not able to attend the Sunday matches. Carole Critchly urged clubs to take action to ensure that this did not occur in future. All players entering should ensure they were available on the Friday rounds and the Final day on the Saturday or Sunday. Better that players withdrew before the competition if, after the draw, they realised they would not be available for both days.
• Availability of Mere Club for Presentation Night. This was discussed and is minuted below under A.O.B.

Officers Reports: There were no officer’s reports,

Pairs Competition:

• Chris G said that there were 31 entries and following the draw, Alan P would organise the venues etc and publish the competition details. The ‘finals’ would be held at Knutsford Bowling Club. KBC advised that refreshments would be available for purchase on the day.
• The draw was made and the details would be given to Alan P on his return from holiday.

Any Other Business: Chris G said no action had been taken to approach Shaw Heath Social Club to see if they could take a provisional booking against the risk on Mere not being available. However, it was clear that although building work at Mere had commenced, the recent appalling weather was already causing delay. In view of the risks and uncertainty, at the Carole C’s suggestion, it was agreed that the officers should seek to secure the Shaw Heath venue as the 2016 one-off location for the 2016 Presentation Night.
